EIA Report.... WTF!!!!

Its very shameful that Govt. EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) report states about the Kokan land that- “Its a Rocky land with no Habitation & vegetation. There are no breeding sites. It is also not used for drying of fish. The conversion of this land will not going to Impact flora and founa and human activities”…ha ha ha!!!!!
Its itself very funny that someone is calling Beautiful land of Kokan as Rocky land with no habitation and breeding. Where farmers are taking their crops since centuries.
Talking about the breeding….If the EIA report states its a barren land & there is not breeding site in this region of Kokan….the why our Govt. is giving compensation to 300 farmers for the loss of income from horticulture????
Is it possible that if a Nuclear Plant is established & then it is not gonna effect the flora and fauna in that region even if the Nuclear waste in this Power plant will be dumped in sea which will perish all the habitat and all aquatic animals in the whole coastline region of Kokan due to which all the Fisherman will have to loose their centuries old Occupation and source of Earning(Thats what happened due to Tarapur Nuclear Power Plant), Here question arises where these thousands of fishermen are supposed to go???…and the radiation coming from the Power plant will drastically make its impact on Human Health such as increase in Cancer and the most dangerous disordered children. :(
So, we should think, Do we really need such Energy which will destroy the whole habitation & Beauty of our Environmentally rich Kokan only for the greed of energy of very few peoples????……

Did We Learn Anything From Bhopal???

2 Dec '1984 Bhopal, People were sleeping....but they didn't know that we were going to enter in a Dark Night. In the mid-night, MIC leaked accidentally(???) from UCIL which took nearly 8000 lives in first 2 days...25000 till date and still counting..
How did it happen? It happened due to greed to save only 50$ per day on electricity. Refrigerator for maintaining gas at a particular temperature were kept switch off. Indias GDP was increasing and this increasing GDP took 25000 innocent lives. But company didn't suffer a single shit. It buried all the waste and ran away. People are still drinking the same groundwater which has got polluted with dumped waste.
When Bhupali went to PM Manmohan Singh asking for Clean drinking water then he told 'We have to Sacrifice if we have to Progress(!!!!!)'. About which progress he is talking? The progress that puts Millions in the bag of Corporates and MNC's and take lives of thousands of innocent people?
This statement shows how our beloved government has become insensitive towards a common people of India. It doesn't make any difference for them if 25000 people died. and we think Govt. is there to take care of us. Still the Bhupalis are fighting for the justice.
Govt. sold Bhupalis life to American MNC. They didn't stop here. Now they want to sell 'Konkan' to one of the French Multinational 'Areva'.MoEF has given nod to Worlds largest Nuclear Power Plant at Jaitapur in Ratnagiri District, Maharashtra.
Nuclear Technology which is said to be so called most safest and cleanest energy on earth. But its actually a danger for the existence of humanity. If its a cleanest and environmental friendly source of energy then why it creates Nuclear Waste whose disposal is impossible and whose radiation remains in atmosphere for Millions of years??
If a Nuclear Power Plant is running without any failure still it radiation which is sufficient to cause many hazardous diseases to people living around it. They suffer cancer, babies may born deformed, many physical problems, infertility. It has happened everywhere. France and Sweedon which have largest no. of Nuclear Power Plant in world, also have the largest no. of cancer patients. In current years this no. is increased. Then where the hell is cleanness and where the hell is friendliness with environment??
If this energy is really good then why many European Countries have banned it by making law?
In India also no. of cancer patients number of physical problems are more in who lives near Nuclear Power Plant. E.g Ravatbhaata and Tarapur. So, Jaitapur Nuclear Power plant will destroy whole konkan and its coastline area.
Govt. propagates that increase in tempureture of sea by 5 degrees (due to dumping of boil hard water into sea)will increase the breed of fishes. A 6 yr old boy of fishermen can tell how foolish is this. It is the way Govt. and Media persons are making fools to people by praising these plants. Environmental Assessment Report has already declared Konkan as 'Rocky and Barren Land'. This is why we call Konkan full with Flora and Fauna???
This Plant is going to set up in Dangerous seismic zone. So, should I explain what can happen to this Plant if is single earthquake comes?? We should remember Chernobyl who claimed 4 lack lives with only 900MWplant. But the Nuclear Power plant at Jaitapur is of whooping 10000MW, largest in the World.
Can anyone imagine what casualty it can claim??
Everywhere Govt. officials and Buerocrates are Nakedly pandering for MNC's by putting lives of people at stake. Prime Minister has already made it very clear what development means to him. All these people have sold their souls.
Its Time for we people to wake up and oppose such disastrous projects which has nothing to do with development. Its development means development of very few people not of masses. Who wants to light lamp of his house by giving cancer and infertility to people. I would love to live in candle throughout my whole life than using Nuclear Power. If they really want us to get Electricity then why don't they think for Environment Friendly ways of producing electricity such as Wind power which can contribute upto 20000MW, Hydroelectricity which can contribute upto thousand of megawatt, solar energy. But they never think about these ways.
Remember if we don't wake up today then it will be too late for tomorrow. So, oppose this Nuclear Power.

NO MORE BHOPAL!!!! NO MORE CHERNOBYL!!!! NO MORE JAITAPUR.

Taking Sponsorship?????? Think again......

To,
Mind-Spark Team,
College of Engineering, Pune.

Friends its a very sensitive issue that we are going to discuss here. We all know a soft drink company called Red Bull sponsors our Grand Event Robotics. No doubt its true that to make any event successful Money matters. But being conscious students it becomes our prime responsibility to know from whom we are taking money and why such company is sponsoring us.
First of all we would like to emphasis your attention towards contents of Red Bull as we should know what we are drinking.
The company itself says that it contains caffeine which is an Addictive gives us addiction of this drink. It is the content which make up to stick to this drink throughout the whole life. Caffeine is cousin of Cocaine causes Insomnia, depression, fatigue, irritation, nervousness, headache, poor concentration. One can of Red Bull contains 80mg of caffeine - equivalent to one cup of coffee. A study by the French Scientific Committee on Human Nutrition found that Red Bull contained excessive caffeine. It also raised concerns about the its other ingredients - Taurine, an amino acid which is also very harmful to our body. Britain's Committee on Toxicity investigated Red Bull in 2001 and warned pregnant women against it because high caffeine intake has been linked to a risk of miscarriage.
Red Bull is banned in-
*France
*Denmark
*Norway

Intension of such companies behind giving huge sponsorship and giving it free of cost is to make more and more young students its addict. Due to such hazardous contents that we discussed above makes a person addictive for lifetime. If a person becomes addictive then these companies don't have to bother about advertisement which booms their profit because ultimately that person going to buy it.
So being responsible students it become very important to understand moto of these companies behind sponsorships and prevent our students from consuming it rather than nakedly pandering for their money.
Its not only about Red Bull but all other soft drink companies does the same. Soft drinks like Pepsi, Coke, Thumps Up etc also contains caffeine, acids like glucanic acid, phosphoric acid and acetic acid causing disturbance in digestive system. Center for science and environment has found pesticide contents in 7 samples out of 12 samples of soft drinks made in India including pepsi, coca-cola, 7up, Mirinda and others.
Problems is not only of what they are adding to it, but the most disastrous thing is that these companies are exploiting huge amount of groundwater for production of drinks resulting depletion in groundwater level in that region eg, plachimada(kerala), thane district(maharashtra), rajasthan, UP.
Note: There are 90 bottling plants in India and each plant exploit 10-12 lack litres of water per day.
For the production of 10 litre of soft drink 100 litres of water is exploited causing huge water waste and soil and water pollution because industrial waste is carelessly dumped on ground or in river making soil infertile and water unfit for drinking. It means if we are drinking a single bottle of soft drink then we wasting 10 bottles of drinking water which can be used by the poor people who don't get clean water to drink though it is public property.
So soft drinks are not only waste of water but by doing this we are also making our society more and more weaker.
Soft drinks also contain a huge amount of Corn Fructose which is very dangerous to our health gives us diabetes in very small age also leads to obesity.
It also contains Ethylene Glycol an antifreeze as it should not freeze at low temperature which is itself acts as an Carcinogen (Cancer causing agent.)
The law says- 'contents should be written with their proportion' on bottle or packet of every food material, but did you see any soft drink bottle with its contents written over it?? No.... you didn't. So the point is they also don't care of this law also and no action is taken in this so called largest democratic country like India. :(
To boom sales of such soft drinks these companies hires our Heroes (actors and players) whom we consider Youth Icon of our country but what the hell they have to do with youth of this country as they are making this youth more and more addictive towards such dirty drinks and giving them a lots of health problems. All these youth icons are also nakedly pandering for money.
Being progressive students of 21st century we should not become victims of such dirty consumerism and should save others also. Our first step towards this should be strictly refuse to buy any such drinks which is harmful to our society after doing this we should demand 'Total Boycott' of all such drinks from our college campus.

There are many universities and colleges in India only where such drinks are banned eg. Anna University, Gujarat University, Coimbatore University etc. But the sorry thing we only copy their syllabus and curriculum but don't such things having the same importance.
So, in Pune lets start from 'Us'. So, we must show these companies that these companies can't do their business at least in our COEP.
So, after knowing so much fact we should think twice before asking them for sponsorships and should refuse if they approach us by themselves. We hope for the sake of Humanity You all will definitely gonna think about it.

Thank you.

Is Pune Metro a Solution for Traffic Congestion???

Since few days there is a very hot debate in all over the Pune on a Metro Rail project which is been projected as a perfect solution for the traffic congestion in Pune by PMC(Pune Municipal Corporation) officials. It is very true that there is a huge problem of Traffic Congestion in Pune. But will Metro Train serve the purpose???.....Lets see,
First and very big problem is the huge Capital. A/C to DPR(Detailed Project Report) this project will cost 10,000 to 17,000 thousand crores of ruppes. Out of which near about 20% will be contributed by central Govt., 20% from state Govt. and 10% by PMC, and other 50% fund will be taken as loan from Private sector. Here a question arises, Pune Municipal Corporation whose annual budget is about 2000 to 2500 thousand crores how will manage to raise such a big amount.
For that they will have only one option to raise taxes on 'Punekars'. Due to this Taxes on Houses, water will increase. PMC will spend less Money on Education and Health (Govt. Hospitals) as well as Sanitation as it will have to repay its loans. It may lead to serious Health Problem in city if an epidemic like Swine Flue returns.
Second and very interesting problem is of fare. A Common Punekar have to pay huge bus fare(Largest in India) 5Rs for 2Km. So, will he travel in the Metro Train which will cost him 7Rs for 2Km???? NO, he will not.......but he will pay taxes for such thing he may never use. Also talking about the buses, condition of buses in Pune is worst. Pune needs 2500 buses for a good service, but unfortunately PMPML has only 1300 buses out of which 100-150 are out of order. So, PMPML is running on 1200 buses instead of 2500 buses means on less than half. Thats why people don't use Public Transport and use their private vehicles like cars and bikes leading to traffic congestion. Now, if Metro comes as a solution for traffic congestion very few people will use it due to its high fare. Also we will not get Metro as easy as PMT as every station will be 1Km far from each other and we will be unable to the station by our private vehicle to get train as there is no parking facility at a single terminal. In such inconvenient condition will you use Metro for day to day purpose......No You won't!!!!
In Pune there will be a great problem of Land Acquisition as it is a very congested city and thousands of people live on the Metro route. There are hundreds of Shops on the projected way. Also Metro is going to cover very less route out of total roads in Pune.
As its a project of thousands of crores ruppes there is huge chances of corruption. It may be one of the reason why PMC officials are promoting this project blindly.
A/C to Report its construction time of this project is 10 yrs. It is well known that not a single project is been completed by PMC in projected time. During construction period 9 meter of road will be engaged for construction of its pillars and 4 meter after the construction is over which will reduce road width causing a huge traffic congestion for the next 10 yr. And the official don't have any plan to counter this problem.
We are told Delhi and Kolkata Metro examples are very proudly. but we are not told that Delhi Metro is running on 20% efficiency. Condition in Kolkata is a little bit worst as it is running on only 10% efficiency. Delhi Metro is having loss of 20-40 crores per yr.
Then what is the guarantee that Pune Metro will be a profit making Transport system.
Officials says that, Pune Metro will make profit only and only if 15,000 people travel by it daily and very funny thing is that on the other side they don't forget to mention upto yr 2035 hardly 11,000 people will travel by it. So, Does it make any sense in wasting public money for the vested interest of very few peoples??
So, to counter the problem of traffic congestion in Pune, Metro may not be the solution. Pune needs a good Public Transport system such as Buses which can be made available in a very low cost with low fares. Also for that PMC should take some steps so that maximum people will come out of their private vehicles and will use Buses. For that there should be Congestion taxe on Private vehicles as they use most of the space on road as well as there should be high Parking charges which are very less in Pune.
So, people should think about this and should raise their voice against this Monstrous Project of Pune Metro Rail which will be not used by most of Punekars and should demand a good, cheap and regular Public Transport system such as buse (PMPML).
